Also, I’m looking for a great SLR camera for no more than $500. Do you suggest I buy the SLR and video camera separately, or get a hybrid camera/video?

Well, here’s some cameras from The Source. I’m pretty sure they’re going out of business, so most of their inventory is practically 50% off. (a little bit more than $500)
Otherwise just shop around. You could also use any regular digital camera, and just take out any fuzzy sounds in the editing process.
