I just bought a canon A40 camera with just the camera, usb cable, and memory card. It wont connect to my computer or any other computer. Do i need to install something so my computer reads that the camera is connected?

make sure the camera is on when it is connected. just because its conected doesnt mean that the computer is “talking to it” because it might be off

Are you turning the camera on once you have connected it.. I know it sounds silly, but until you turn it on, the computer won’t know that it is there.

When you plug your usb into your camera and the computer, the actual camera has to be turned on. If its the USB that’s causing the problem, use the memory card instead.

Windows will auto sense when something is connected to a USB port. It will then try to find and install a driver for it. Apparently this is not happening.
Did you get a software disk with your camera? Sometimes, you need to install the software on the disk before you plug in the camera. Did you do that?
Try going to cannon’s web site and see if there is a software download that you need for the computer. It’s not uncommon that problems are found after a product is released, and updates are made available on the web site.

There should be a disk included with the camera. If not, search for a site on the web where you can download it. I did this when I did not
have the disk to install my camera and it works fine.
